Our history
D.J. Carmichael dates back to 1896, a time of strong investment
interest in Western Australia associated with one of the world's
major gold discoveries, the so-called Golden Mile at Kalgoorlie
– east of Perth.
Donald J. Carmichael, of Scottish origin, emigrated to Western
Australia from Dunedin in New Zealand and in 1896 established
his firm in Kalgoorlie. He also acted as the representative
of S.C. Ward & Co the leading Adelaide stockbroker of the
era.

Brian Hockney
A CA by background Brian has been actively involved in both public and private companies for many years.
Most recently was MD of Matrix Oil (ASX) and a director of Montagu Capital and Managing Director of Montagu
Corporate. Brian has over 15 years experience as a stockbroker and 6 years as a corporate finance director,
including as an executive director of Hartley Poynton Ltd. Brian has been involved in IPO's, secondary raisings
and underwritings for companies in the resources and industrial sectors.
Nigel Smith
Associate Director
Nigel has 25 years financial services experience in the UK and Australia. From 1984 to 2007 he was based in the
UK, starting with Fidelity Investments and from 2000 as Group Compliance Director of a full-service firm of Stockbroker
in London, becoming CEO in 2005. In late 2007, he relocated to Australia where he has since joined DJC in its corporate finance
division.
With significant practitioner and regulatory experience, Nigel is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for
Securities & Investments (UK), Master of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia and a Liveryman of
the Guild of International Bankers (UK).
Mark Ceglinski
Prior to joining Carmichael Corporate, Mark was a former Partner of Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young.
More recently he was Head of Corporate Finance for Bell Potter Securities in Western Australia. He has
been a Chairman of several ASX listed companies and is a highly regarded corporate advisor. Mark's
experience is broad and includes IPO's, secondary market offerings, underwritings, mergers and
acquisitions/divestments through both takeovers and schemes, due diligence, private equity and
corporate strategy. Mark holds a B.Comm, MBA, is a Chartered Accountant and is a member of FINSIA,
AICD, Stockbrokers Association and AIM.
John Polinelli
Senior Manager
John has extensive experience in corporate finance, encompassing mergers & acquisitions,
private equity transactions, initial public offerings, secondary market raisings, underwritings,
due diligence, asset acquisition and disposals and asset management. His experience is complemented by
his comprehensive understanding of the equities market having also worked as a Private Client Adviser,
both internationally and domestically, advising and dealing in the listed equities markets.
